Personal data | I was born 1974 in Trier (Germany). I attended school in Dieblich (elementary) and Montabaur (Mons-Tabor-Gymnasium), where I also got my "Abitur". |
Studies |
From 1995 to 2001 I studied physics at the university of Marburg (Germany). I graduated in April 2001 after completing a one-year diploma thesis on "numerical studies of viscoelelastic shear turbulence" in the Complex Systems research group. I have been an active member of the student body for several years, and as such have been a student representative in several departmental committees. |
Work |
After graduating, I continued to work in the complex systems group at Marburg for a few months. From May 2002 through June 2007, I've been working towards a PhD in the Quantum Gases Group of Prof. Sengstock at the Institute for Laser Physics at the University of Hamburg. My PhD thesis, "Coherent Dynamics of Spinor Bose-Einstein Condensates", treats aspects of the physics of ultracold atomic gases. After completing my PhD I continued my research as a post doc until September 2008. Since October 2008 I have been a Post Doc in the "Cold Atoms" group of Prof. Kai Bongs at the University of Birmingham (UK). I'm responsible for a project researching disordered two-dimensional quantum gases. |
Free time | I had to put my hobby high voltage technology on hold due to lack of time and space. On weekends and on holiday I like to go hiking (e.g. in the Peak District or Lake District), climbing or sailing (on Edgbaston Reservoir or at Bad Zwischenahn). |
