Everyone probably has seen some experiments with static electricity at school, and every school- or other experimental physics book contains a lot of these, so I won't bore you with descriptions. Only a few hints: Doorknobs plugged onto empty felt-tip pens make good "charge spoons" etc., and you can make a table-tennis ball conductive by simply rubbing it with graphite powder. The 10kV simple cascade is usually good enough, but you can also use a mains transformer plus rectifier/capacitor that gives 10..30kV.
This is just one example: the metal ball moves to and fro between the metal boundaries (with a voltage of 10kV between them).
